How do we work at gartenART?

We can carry out the entire process of designing and building your natural swimming pool from the initial consultation with you, the design and planning phase, to detailed design, construction and completion of your pond, right through to carrying out a maintenance program afterwards.

We work in three main stages:

1. On-site design consultation

2. Design

3. Construction (either entirely by us, or with you as a "semi-DIY")

1. On-site design consultation

Whether we are carrying out the whole construction process ourselves, or whether we are working with you on a “semi-DIY” basis, the process always starts with an on-site design consultation, for which we charge £400 + travel + VAT (UK only, £200 + VAT in London).

Our experience of this is that it always helps to bring alive your vision of what you want.

By talking this through with you, we are able to explain the different practical possibilities, and your dream takes its first steps to becoming a reality.

At the end of the design consultation we will have all the materials and information necessary to carry out the design process back in the office.

After the design consultation we produce a report covering site dimensions and environmental conditions with supporting photography. Based upon our design discussions we also provide a more accurate idea of the costs and options involved.

2. Design Stage

The next step is to proceed to the full design stage.

We will produce a concept 2D design and communicate with you by email and phone to finalise this so that you are happy to proceed.

Once the concept 2D design is agreed we create a 3D model.  We then show you this in person, or email you a video walk-through, which you can easily play on your computer.  At this stage we will also give you a more accurate estimate of the construction costs involved.

The 3D model is an integral part of our design process as it enables you to see your vision as virtual reality, looking from different angles and perspectives to get a real sense of the final result. The 3D model also helps our construction team get a very clear vision of what they are building.

The construction team will also receive all the detailed design documentation to build your natural pool exactly to our specific requirements, and you will receive a presentation folder with this documentation.

3. Construction Stage

Our construction team will carry out the construction precisely to our schedule and specifications, and this takes 4-6 weeks to complete.  Depending on the season the pool will be ready to swim in within 2-3 weeks.

It is also possible to carry out the construction on a "semi-DIY" basis.  This service is available to anyone who wishes to carry out some of the construction work themselves or using local contractors, for example excavation or building the dividing wall.  We then install the specialist components such as the liner, pumps, filters and plants.  In a "semi-DIY" project we supervise the whole construction process to ensure that everything proceeds according to plan, and are always available to answer any questions you may have.

Maintenance

We will always be in touch after the construction and are as excited as you are to see your natural swimming pool growing and maturing over the following months and years.

We offer maintenance as an additional service to design and construction.  The maintenance required for a natural swimming pool is much lower than for a conventional swimming pool as nature itself carries out the cleaning service.

We recommend we carry out a twice-yearly service to remove sediments and to check the equipment, as well taking care of proportional growth of suitable plants.  We can also visit more regularly if you wish.
