About us
gartenART have been
designing and building gardens, ponds and water features in Germany
and then the UK since 1995, and are now the leading UK company in
the design and construction of natural swimming ponds.
At gartenART we
believe that design and construction for the 21st century
is about creatively blending the best of the old and the new. We
combine leading edge technology and the latest environmental knowledge
with a respect for traditional and contemporary garden designs in
their respective environments.
As a board member of
IGB (Internationale
Gesellschaft fuer naturnahe Badegewaesser),
the international trade association for natural swimming pools, we have access to and
contribute to the latest research
and technology in swimming ponds, which is currently almost
exclusively from German-speaking countries.
We are active members
of the
Association of Professional Landscapers,
the trade association for the best of the UK's landscape companies,
and are also accredited by
TrustMark. This is a scheme supported by the Government, consumer groups and the building
industry to help you find reputable firms to do work in your home or
garden.
We are also in
the process of helping to set a UK branch of IGB, which will act as
the UK trade association for natural swimming pools.
Key personnel at
gartenART
Ralf Schmiel,
founder and director of gartenART, is responsible for design and construction
management. He has had a lifelong interest in aquatic life
systems, and from 1989 was responsible for the restoration of several
historical parks and ponds in Germany, before starting gartenART
as a landscape design company in 1995. He moved to the UK in
2001, since when he has become the leading expert in the design and
construction of natural swimming pools in this country. He was
recently elected to the board of IGB (see above).
Tim Evans,
director, has run the
financial and administrative side of gartenART since 2003. Before
this he worked as an IT consultant and project manager in the City for ten
years.
Andrew Baigent,
head foreman, has 10 years full
time experience
in hard and soft landscaping in New Zealand, Australia and the UK.
He joined gartenART in 2005, since when he has built over 20
swimming ponds.
Jamie Goodman,
foreman, has been working in the UK horticultural
and construction industry for 15 years and has a wide range of
experience in hard and soft landscaping.
Frank Drewes
leads our design team and is a
qualified landscape architect with over 15 years experience in
garden design and landscape architecture in Italy, Germany and the
UK.
Sarah Donovan
is a qualified landscape architect
with 10 years experience designing landscapes and pools in
California and the UK.
