Pool conversions

If you already have a conventional swimming pool you can easily convert it into a natural pool.

There are two basic ways of doing this.  With an "internal conversion" we keep the existing structure of the pool and create a small filtration/planting area at the end by building an internal dividing wall.  The filtration area can be as little as 20% of the total water surface area.

An "external conversion" keeps the swimming area as it is and extends the water surface for the surrounding filtration/planting area.   We would still generally use the existing swimming pool walls as the retaining/dividing wall between the swimming and planting areas.

You can see examples of both types of pool converstion here. More detailed case studies are also available in the Downloads and News & Blog sections.

"We’ve used it nearly every day we've been here this summer.  The children come and use it after school... they love the nature aspect also, watching the pond-skaters, damselflies, dragonflies, anything else they can find. We’ve used it more this summer than we ever used the swimming pool."
